“Although it’s beautiful all year-round, standing tall and looking magnificent with its golden spines, it’s when it blooms that it captures everyone’s attention. The flowers are mesmerizing, with their beautiful, large, pink/white petals, and they smell like perfume for humans and pollinators alike.”

Oh! Wow!
Most folks here in the Sonora can’t wait for Spring. Cactus blooms and flowers, gifts from God, arrive all at once, it appears to me. The beauty of the Sonora Desert is like nothing I’ve ever experienced until now.
As I sat on my patio chair on this beautiful morning, taking in a good dose of Vitamin D, the brilliance and beauty of the Golden Torch Cactus reached out to me, as if to say, “come to me.” While Observing this particular cactus, the blooms appeared to grow quickly, It takes just a few short hours for the blooms to pop out with a grand entrance, singing to the warm sun.
Simply amazing!
The Golden Torch bloom is about a 2-3 day event, I’m told. The flower comes and goes, sometimes without notice. If you have a camera for security, it would be fun to catch the bloom dance at night, watch it pop out live.
Argentina Giant

There appears to be some synergy between the Golden Torch and and Argentina Giant. I see cousins. Both come from the same family with the same botanical names “Echinopsis.” I’m new at this. The Golden Torch, Echinopsis “Spachiana.” And, Argentina Giant, Echinopsis “Candacins.”
For me, making our home in the Sonora Desert last summer, even with the heat, was a gift of a healthier quality of life for us. I particularly love learning about the diversity of flora and fauna. My passion is writing in ways healing to the soul, and informative.
