Rescue ship back to my safe place…
I was in ‘trauma informed therapy’ today. She, my therapist, helped me peel back the onion on the same nightmare for 7 decades. I’m in a safe place to start with. I’ve had this same nightmare on and off for 7 decades now, to be sure…
My safe place slips away while dreaming, until it is almost a ‘falling off the cliff’ sensation, in the worst of the dream. But I wake up to safety, just in the nick of time…
“War Baby” https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_baby_(disambiguation)
My therapist helped me understand a couple of things about nightmares like this. I was born into an unsafe environment in 1946 as a “war baby.”
So, my life began living in unsafe conditions with a very sick US Navy WWII Pacific hero. There was no help for military families back then. I say, “sick people make sick people sicker!” I see this now, as it helps me heal as I know more and remember too…
We know how to help our heroes now, but we must do better. We also know how to help local communities recover from traumatic events, but we must get better at it. We also know how to help each other and support each other as friends, colleagues and loved ones, but we must do better, much better…
Feeling unsafe in a continuum of fear for my entire childhood, has left deep scars. Most of my readers get this. I worry about the ones that fear going with us on this journey of healing…
The good news!
The treatment, my therapist helped me with was how to end the dream back in a safe place. But I have to create the end of the dream back to my safe place. She believes that this dream will end as my mind is rewired for safety.
I can’t thank my dear therapist enough for helping me end this perpetual state of feeling unsafe. She is a true gift. Wow!
This is why we, as a community, have to fix this pandemic. The intergenerational pain of trauma will never end unless we, as a local community end it. We must do this for our kids. Is it too late?
“America is sick with 3-4 generations of never ending trauma,” as I listened to someone who knows. As the professor paced back in forth in profound thought, she dramatically proclaimed, “The Covid pandemic, perpetual wildfires, dangerous ideological beliefs and misinformation, make this moment in time a national health crisis.”
Let us all come together as a community to stop the generational cycle of pain, once and for all. We know how to do this, I know…
Thank you, my friends, ❤ for your kindness and love. Very cool, indeed!
