Jack in his natural element. King of the Forest, he is. He loves walkies in the woods behind Depoe Bay…

Jack and his pal Jenny go to this secret place in the rain forest near Depoe Bay. Jack knows right where it is. He takes Jenny by the the hand and leads her there each day before the sun goes down.

Jack is “King of The Rain Forest and the coastal trails too. He believes it with all his heart and soul… And so does Jenny too…

Jack looks out for Jenny and all his wildlife friends in the rain forest. He looks for “Nettie Newt” sitting on his favorite little Fairy House waiting to chat with friends. They walk by the trail under the tall trees that reach to the sky….

Jack and Jenny went up the trail looking for Nettie Newt’s Fairy House. Jack fell down and lost his crown, still wagging his tail, while Jenny came running after…

Nettie Newt loves Jack the most, and Jenny too. He is excited when he sees Jack dancing and singing on the trail next to the creek by the Bay. The tall trees reach to the sky here in the rain forest by the sea…

“Koda” The Whale Watching Golden Doodle, is a hit with the Gray’s, especially the kids in tow… He knows his pals, the Gray’s, who make their home by the Bay…

I dream of ‘Whale Watching’ most days as the the Gray Whales party in the Bay. Koda loves these beautiful animals, as they are his wildlife friends too…

I get a look at my Gray Whale friends while walking the Coast trail in Little Whale Cove. I dream of being with Koda as we watch all our Gray Whale friends together…

Koda barks as a Gray he knows comes near the boat to say hello. He especially loves the sweet smell of his Gray Whale pals as they spray near the boat.

We humans don’t like the smell, though. But, I know Koda does, and that makes the ‘sweet’ smell okay for me too…

It’s “Jack’s” Birthday! A Friend of Coasties, Indeed…

My good old boy, Jack, is 10 years old now! Wow! What a ride it has been…

“It’s time to get up,” I thought, keeping my eyes closed, so Jack thinks I’m still asleep.

“Hey mom, time to get up,” Jack whispered softly in my ear while his cold nose touched my cheek. He thinks it’s another birthday, I know.

Jack believes it is his birthday everyday, all day long. And, I do too. We celebrate birthdays everyday, and he knows this too…

Whether it’s my birthday, Jack’s birthday or someone else’s birthday, we celebrate birthdays everyday…

That’s what we do, Jack and me. We love birthdays everyday.

Doesn’t everybody celebrate birthdays everyday? I hope they do.

Jack made birthday’s everyday. For he knows I love him and birthdays too.

Jack knows it is his birthday, I can tell. He even knows where the doggie cookies are, but he also knows he must wait for mom…

When my eyes open just slightly, Jack jumps up with that big happy smile. “It’s my birthday too,” he barked with a tail wag and a grin…

Jack makes me feel like it’s my birthday everyday. That’s why I love Jack so. For Jack made birthday’s everyday just for me…

Jack knows too, that a birthday cookie comes his way everyday. He also knows I love him with all my heart when he gets his birthday cookie each day, maybe more than once a day if he is a good boy…

We always go on a car ride on his birthday, but we do that everyday too. That’s why we love birthdays everyday, all day long…

Jack loves long walks in the forest, on the beach or a short stroll around the harbor close to home. Jack loves to go down by the fishing boats where we both love to go.

Finally, chicken nuggets is the evening dish for Jack. For everyday is a birthday celebration for Jack and me…

Time for Jack’s nap, and one for me too…

“Jack’s” nap on his birthday and everyday…

Jason and Pals Willow n Cooper Find Solace in The Rain Forest…

“Willow n Cooper can’t wait for a run in the rain forest…
“Willow n Cooper, best pals…
Jason Evans…”Three goofballs on a muddy trek between showers ♥️”
Big Bro, Jason Evans! Friend of “Nettie Newt” https://survivethriveptsd.org/2021/02/jason-and-pal-nettie-newt-share-food-for-the-soul/

I ran into my good friend, Jason again the other day. “Willow and Cooper” were out with him on the old Immonen Road north of a Depoe Bay.

“During a pandemic, we are drawn to old logging roads. Two hours of play and no other humans to see…”Jason mused with his grateful grin…

“Willow and Cooper wanted to visit with “Nettie Newt,” old friend in the rain forest. She is always at her favorite spot telling stories of love, kindness, and cheer…

“Nettie Newt “

The only others outside Nettie’s circle of Newt friends are Willow, Cooper n Jason. For she knows they won’t step on her tail…not ever…

When Nettie Newt was hurt last time she saw Willow, Cooper n Jason. He picked her up ever gently. He slowly walked her to the ‘Fairy House’ back aways in the rain forest to heal…

“Newt’s grow back their Limbs,” Jason would say with excitement. “We are curious and amazed upon seeing Nettie grow her leg again and heal,” he further explained wth a look of inspiration…

Jason is like that. He cares deeply about all furry loved ones and wildlife friends…

So, Nettie Newt, Willow, Copper, n Jason continue their stories and laughter for awhile longer. Willow always knows when it’s time to get back home for dinner…

So they all climb back into Jason’s rig while Nettie Newt looks on with a little sadness in her eyes. For she will miss her pals until next time they come out again to the Immonen Road trail in the rain forest high above the sea…

“Fleet of Flowers” on Memorial Day in Depoe Bay…Memories from past years…before COVID

Honoring the Armed Forces of America on Memorial Day Depoe Bay, Oregon  Quote from this website…

“On Memorial Day, each year since 1945, Depoe Bay has hosted the FLEET OF FLOWERS. This colorful ceremony is recognized as one of the most impressive observances held in the United States. The event was initiated to honor the memories of two fishermen, Roy Bower and John Chambers, who died at sea in an attempt to aid another fisherman.  The Fleet of Flowers is to honor those who have been lost at sea.  The event has grown over the years to include members of the Armed Forces as well as fishermen and firefighters who gave their lives to serve others.”

Steve’s thoughts…

Since moving to the Oregon Coast over 15 years ago, we have come to know the honor bestowed on the legacy of coastal fishermen.  Lives have been lost and saved at sea over many decades either because of the extreme weather conditions at times or in a rescue effort by the US Coast Guard stationed in Depoe Bay and other ports along the Oregon Coast.

Memorial Day is the time for honor and remembrance of those who gave their lives while building Oregon’s fishing industry.  It is also the time to honor the US Coast Guard’s historic role in providing homeland security and protecting the coastal waters of Oregon.  Depoe Bay has a strong presence of the US Coast Guard who serve our community along with the firefighters, emergency medical services, and local police 1st responders.  With great pride, we honor the Armed Forces of America on Memorial Day as well.

The long tradition of the Fleet of Flowers on Memorial Day brings much joy and healing to the community.  We celebrate and honor those who have risked their lives while serving America and all the families who served too…

We will dearly miss this very special annual Memorial Day celebration, Depoe Bay’s very own for 75 years.

See you all next year with anticipation. Be safe and healthy…
