“Using a surrogate provides a continual canine maternal presence that zoo staff could not provide. The presence provides sustenance and comfort,”

*******************************************************************************************After Once reading this story you will love Pitbulls! My nickname is “Sparkles” so a kinship was born right away. We are grandparents of a Pitbull named Skai as well. There was a time when the breed, “Pitbull” was a scary thought until our daughter, Sarah, brought Skai home 5 years ago. It didn’t take long to fall in love with Skai and discover the truth about Pitbulls. They are the kindest and one of the smartest dogs on the planet. We love Skai!
“Man’s best friend” is a friend and loving companion, indeed… Skai has been at Sarah’s side through many challenges over the past 5 years. I have watched with wonder and joy how sensitive a dog can be to its master and even others living in the home. Skai likes to cuddle and be close…the healing value is enormous for anyone who needs a little extra support during times of trial. Because of my work with PTSD and moral injury the past few years, I have become a huge fan of therapy dogs as an alternative treatment strategy. K-9, defined as a working dog, offers mankind one of the rare unconditional and loving relationships on earth. I’m wondering more often these days what we humans can learn from the dogs who love us without reservations or conditions. When we show love in return to our animal companions, they become even more loyal and sensitive to our needs. There are so many wonderful and compelling K-9 stories connected with treating physical and mental health patients, we should all celebrate one of God’s greatest gifts to mankind, “man’s best friend.”
