Steve Sparks

Co-Founder & Executive Director of CFLAT

Steve Sparks is a retired information technology sales and marketing executive with over 35 years of industry experience, including a Bachelors in Management from St. Mary’s College. He currently works as a part-time strategic planning consultant and leadership coach. Before joining the world of business, Steve served in the US Navy as a Radioman (RM3) and was honorably separated in 1965. He gained experience as top director at Nortel Networks for over 15 years, eventually retiring in 2002.

Aside from his work and academics, Steve is married to Judy Lee Sparks and lives in Depoe Bay, Oregon. His family includes 3 adult daughters, 5 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. One of his greatest passions is mentoring and improving K-12 education, guiding him to serve as vice chair of Neighbors for Kids, Depoe Bay, Oregon, for over 6 years. Steve’s creative outlet is as a non-fiction author, writing about his roots as a post WWII US Navy military child growing up in the 1950s-1960s. Steve & his wife love traveling America, exploring, writing, and filming the stunning beauty of the Central Oregon Coast.

My Approach

At the center of my leadership style is in community building. We look at the broader needs of both the community and organizational mission and goals, challenges and specific actions for measurable transformational change. My friends and colleagues describe my style as personal and fun and push me back when it’s critical to our mutual success. I like to build close bonds with my clients and get to know them as a human and individual on this journey to find our real selves. I’m all in on relationship building, trust, empathy, and compassion. I believe the key to any successful endeavor is to collaborate. 

 

Another belief I share is wellness happens all day long everyday. We are better as a kinder more gentle community. As a result, one of my goals is to help clients build self supporting internal and external resources to achieve results. Relationship building is at the center of my leadership style and sales approach on the ground.

My work continues to be successful working as as a team member with clients at all levels in the organization and with major customers or clients. I’m embedded as a team member and facilitator. Without everyone at the table buying in, there can be no lasting business success, continuity or sustainable bottom line results.
