A couple of months ago my posting included an update on non-profits, public, and private organizations coming together to help veterans returning home from war with programs delivered directly in the communities where they reside.http://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=4469716410121705800#editor/target=post;postID=4708284990189152658 The title was, “A “Call to Action” in local communities is critical!  Public and private non-profit partnerships are key to delivering solutions.”

One such example of a local non-profit community partnership is Operations Revamp, Inc., in Grand Junction, Colorado.  The groups mission statement below fits exactly the model of support that offers the most potential for veterans to make a difference for themselves and others while working with family and friends close to home.  Veterans returning home from war come home with the challenges of readjustment, but often do not find the “soul feeding” resources needed locally to make them feel part of the communities in which they live.  Operation Revamp is a model worth looking at and learning more about for communities planning similar support groups for veterans as they adjust to a healthy, happy, and productive life after war…

“The young veteran sits at the bus stop offering few signs of his military experience.  Once a proud hero defending our nation he has returned to civilian life with a burden of psychological disorder.  Before he left he had a good job and enjoyed extensive time with his wife and child. Though he still stands tall and attempts to adjust he struggles with night terrors, mood swings, substance abuse and fears.  He is unemployed again and trying hard to support his young family but distancing himself.  The war has taken its toll on his psyche and he has fallen prey to depression and emotions he can’t explain or understand.    He has wounds – invisible wounds.”
