Chris and I became fast friends. While I was sitting on my favorite bench, filming and talking about the beauty of the coast, and taking in the full healing power of the ocean,
Chris, came up and introduced himself, reached out for my hand and said, “Hi, my name is Chris. My wife, Nina and I, just closed on a beautiful place on Shining Mist.
In that moment, I thought of my old pal, Byron Lewis, who used to live on Shining Mist before he passed…
“Nice to meet you, Chris!” We talked for awhile. I found out they were from Des Moines, Iowa.
Chris loves the coast and the outdoors. “Iowa is too flat and cold,” he said. Then he told me they were exploring the area this week and trying to pick special places to visit before they returned to home and work the following week…
The next day, Judy and I invited Chris ‘n Nina over on Christmas Day for some cheer and friendship…
After a few hours of more fun than I could have imagined, meeting a new friend and neighbor, I invited Chris to join me the next day on a drive down the coast to Yachats and Cape Perpetua.
As we drove down the coast to Newport then Waldport the next day, I found myself sharing so many of the sights and sounds of nature we have come to love, and many of the community and cultural things we love too….
For me it was so healing. Seemed like all the pain I’ve been feeling and everything else went far away for awhile. “Wow! This felt great,” I thought to myself…
We drove up to the top of Cape Perpetua. It was cold and snowy. But, it felt like Heaven to us…
I know Chris and I will be close friends. I thought I saw my ol’surf duude pal, Byron Lewis, sitting on the picnic table at the top of Cape Perpetua smiling at us, and welcoming Chris to the neighborhood…
In fact, I know Byron was there with me like he always was…
