Without truly life saving health care, especially mental health, I would not be alive today at almost 76 years old. I’ll tell you why.

I see now in these later years that good mental health is essential to a healthy holistic life style. My life in this moment finally feels this way.

Mental health, until now, has been taboo. In my family, in those childhood years, never gave things “mental” as something natural. Maybe, they thought, by pushing certain buttons in your mind, emotions and pain could go to the back burner for good.

For good? Well, now we know the truth. Eventually, PTSD will kill you. Or, if it is not treated, life is so miserable suicide becomes the only way out.

My health is pretty good now after a tough go for the last 3 years. I believe now my life almost ended a while back. It was a holistic approach to health care that saved me, especially clinical behavioral health care.

But, this approach must start at the front end, not as a, “wish we knew more about this mental health stuff years ago.”

Everyone needs to include mental health awareness in their lives. With ‘community-based behavior health clinics’ coming quickly to communities everywhere, we can end the terrible consequences of poor mental health.

I never thought this major paradigm shift in mental health care would happen in my lifetime. And, at almost 76, I can experience a peace of mind never felt before…
