Acupuncture targets “trigger points” of pain connected with muscle tenseness….

by | Jun 17, 2013

Col. Richard Petri, Fort Bliss Physical Medicine and Integrative Health Services chief, performs acupuncture on a patient at Fort Bliss, Texas, Feb. 25, 2012. The procedure targets “trigger points” of pain associated with muscle tenseness.

Holistic Treatments worth a look and try…  Quote from this website…

“FORT BLISS, Texas (May 30, 2012) — For some Soldiers, the emotional scars of combat can be just as overwhelming as the physical ones. Often, Soldiers had only a choice between suppression or medical discharge. But the Warrior Resilience Center at Fort Bliss, Texas, seeks to help Soldiers treat their post-traumatic stress emotionally and spiritually, and return as functioning members to their units.”

I am reminded again of the variety of alternative treatments, including acupuncture, available to help soldiers with emotional pain that can linger 24/7 during life after war…  The prescription medications recommended don’t always get the job done.  If you are on anti-depressants, pain killers, sleep aids, muscle relaxers, anxiety relievers, etc., etc., it can be complicated, real complicated.  If you toss in a little alcohol to the concoction of drugs it can even be dangerous and life threatening.  Please be guided by your primary care physician and mental health professionals in any case of investigating and trying treatments of any sort available these days…  I know from my own experience that taking only medications that are recommended, necessary and actually work together has been so much better for my own quality of life.  Adding alternative treatments such as acupuncture, seems to offer much promise.  All of these choices are tailored to individual needs during our journey of healing…  It takes time and lots of attention.  It also takes big time support from loved ones who care deeply about your recovery.  I hate to think about the worst of the emotional pain that so many of us experience with PTSD.  But the best of the outcomes with an effective treatment regimen, is a much more joyful balance in life after war….
