PTSD can be a lasting effect when spankings turn into child abuse!

The following quote is from today’s CNN report, http://www.cnn.com/2011/11/07/living/effects-of-physical-discipline/index.html

“Among psychologists, Tara’s flashback is considered a symptom of post-traumatic stress disorder from years of physical and emotional abuse, and it’s just one of many potential lasting effects when discipline crosses the line into abuse.”

In my book, Reconciliation: A Son’s Story, my research and story is on the the toxic home and child abuse resulting from a parent who suffers from the symptoms of PTSD either from the trauma of exposure to combat in war or a severe traumatic experience of various types.  Often parents who abuse children or spouses have experienced truama themselves creating the condition of intergenerational PTSD as in the case of the article above written by Emanualla Grinberg, CNN.  This is another example of why it is so critical for combat veterans returning home and others who suffer a traumatic event should seek treatment from a psychotherapist.
